Maintaining a balance
What it means to be a family caregiver is different for everyone. For many, it’s the role of a lifetime. And while the responsibilities and time spent may vary from caregiver to caregiver, one thing remains the same: self-care is essential.
When you’re caring for a loved one, it can be easy to put your own needs on the back burner. Doing that for too long, though, may result in caregiver burnout, which could significantly compromise your own physical and/or mental health.
When you take care of yourself it helps you to stay strong, healthy and focused. It enhances your ability to be an effective caregiver, which means your loved one will benefit as well.
