National PACE Association honors Fallon Health President and CEO Richard Burke

Leader of NE’s largest PACE recognized for two decades of advocating for the participants, caregivers who benefit from the program.

Worcester, Mass., September 20, 2023— Throughout his 25-year career with Fallon Health, Richard Burke has been a driving force behind the organization’s commitment to serving older adults. Today, he was recognized for his significant contributions on behalf of PACE by the National PACE Association (NPA) with its PACE Special Recognition Award presented in Miami, Florida during the 2023 NPA Annual Conference.

“There are a small handful of long-time successful PACE leaders who have very effectively advanced their programs and served as standard-setters on PACE quality. Richard’s contributions to PACE and those they serve are immeasurable,” said Shawn Bloom, President and CEO of the National PACE Association.

A Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a Medicare and Medicaid program that helps people meet their health care needs in the community instead of going to a nursing home. Fallon Health has been offering PACE for nearly 30 years. In Massachusetts, its program is called Summit ElderCare. In New York, it’s called Fallon Health Weinberg-PACE.

Under Richard’s leadership, Fallon Health’s PACE programs have:

  • Grown from one Massachusetts location to five and has grown to also include a program in Western New York State.
  • Expanded to include 10 counties across the Commonwealth and two counties in New York.
  • Reached a membership high with approximately 1,450 participants enrolled across both programs. Today, Fallon Health’s Summit ElderCare program is the largest PACE in New England and is among the 10 largest PACE organizations in the country.
  • Created the path for further extending Fallon Health’s reach in the coming years, including bringing the model of care to unserved or underserved communities.

“For decades, Richard has been a champion for PACE. He has a deep appreciation for the impact that PACE makes in the lives of our participants and their caregivers. And through his unwavering support and steadfast leadership, PACE has become an indelible part of Fallon Health’s culture and its future,” said Kris Bostek, Senior Vice President of PACE Programs at Fallon Health.
