The senior leadership role is exclusively focused on state programs
New position is Fallon’s latest investment in services supporting individuals enrolled in health insurance programs sponsored or supported by the Commonwealth

Worcester, Mass., February 15, 2022—Fallon Health, a nationally recognized not-for-profit health care services organization, today announced that Matthew Herndon has been selected to fill the newly created position of Senior Vice President and Chief State Programs Officer. Herndon brings extensive health plan experience and vast knowledge of the Massachusetts Medicaid market, making him the ideal choice to join Fallon’s C-Suite.

The executive role is exclusively focused on state programs. Its creation reflects Fallon’s priority investment in serving its members who are Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.

“The newly added role of Chief State Programs Officer is consistent with Fallon’s mission of improving health and inspiring hope,” said Richard Burke, President and CEO of Fallon Health. “In keeping with our commitment to the changing and unique needs of the diverse communities we serve, Matt brings a wealth of experience and insight to the work he will do in helping to guide the organization’s focus on members who need us most.”

As Chief State Programs Officer, Herndon will lead the organization’s MassHealth and  Community Care lines of business, as well as other state programs that will further Fallon Health’s mission to serve individuals enrolled in health insurance programs sponsored or supported by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He will oversee the execution of business strategies, care models and provider performance, partnering with MassHealth officials as well as Fallon leaders.

“I’m excited to be involved with an organization that holds a unique place in our health care system focusing on members who are most in need of our support. The safety net created by Fallon’s government programs has been particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to be for years to come. There is no health plan like it,” said Herndon.
