Fallon Health announces 11th annual Canal Diggers Road Race
Road race to celebrate Worcester’s historic Canal District
Worcester, Mass., July 24, 2017 ― Fallon Health today announced its sponsorship of the Eleventh Annual Fallon Health Canal Diggers 5Km Road Race on Saturday, September 9 at 11 a.m. The race not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but the heritage of the region that Fallon has called home for 40 years. The race is named for the early Irish immigrants who dug the Blackstone Canal, connecting Worcester to Providence in the 1820s.
Open to all runners, joggers and walkers, the 5Km starts and finishes at the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Centre, 19 Temple St., Worcester. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Foundation. Pizza and snacks, Harpoon beer—courtesy of Harpoon Brewery—and live music follows the race.

The race is being led this year by newly appointed co-chairs, Brendan Moran and Tammy Bailey, who have served on the Canal Diggers Road Race Committee since 2014.
“This race has it all—positive energy, a great course, nearly 700 participants and festive post-race activities,” said Bailey. “We would not be successful without our many volunteers, sponsors and community pride. It’s a great time to be in Worcester!”
In addition to Fallon Health, sponsors for the Canal Diggers Road Race include CSX, Worcester Railers, Hanover Insurance, Harpoon Brewery, Mackintire Insurance, Polar Beverages Inc. and Sneakerama.
Advance online registration is $29 until Aug. 31 and $32 from Sept. 1 – 8 at 7:30 p.m. Registration is $40 the day of the race. The first 1,000 registrants will receive a free performance T-shirt. Awards will be given to top finishers—both male and female— in each age category as well as top team. For members of Fallon Health, reimbursement may be available for their Canal Diggers Road Race registration fees through Fallon’s It Fits! benefit.
