Matt Herndon joined Fallon Health in 2022 as its Chief State Programs Officer—a leadership role that is exclusively focused on state programs. He leads Fallon Health in its commitment to the changing and unique needs of the diverse communities it serves.

Matt led Fallon Health’s bid to participate in MassHealth’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Partnership Plan program to bring high-quality, lower-cost care to Medicaid members in eastern and central Massachusetts and the Berkshires. He drove implementation for Fallon Health’s ACO partnerships which will care for approximately 100,000 members. Matt also oversees the performance of Fallon Health’s qualified health plans known as Community Care. Finally, he leads government affairs for the organization.

Matt has extensive experience in health care, particularly with Medicaid/MassHealth programs. He most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, an international nonprofit focused on advancing compassionate care through programs, education, and advocacy. Prior to that, he was the Chief Legal Officer for Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan, where he was responsible for the strategy and performance of the organization’s Managed Care Organization (MCO) product and was plan co-lead of its Accountable Care Organization (ACO) product.

He holds a Juris Doctor from Case Western University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College.
