Fallon Health provides nearly $340,000 to local hunger organizations in 2022
More than $3M distributed to support food and nutrition security
Worcester, Mass. February 8, 2023— Fallon Health announced today it donated an additional $200,000 to local hunger organizations who continue to experience greater need. The donation brings the not-for-profit health care services organization’s total investment in the fight against hunger to $337,350 for 2022.
“For many, it is a struggle to afford or gain access to nutritious food. The hunger organizations we partner with provide a vital resource, however, a dramatic increase in demand due to pandemic resources ending and a record rate of inflation are straining their abilities,” said Todd Bailey, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Fallon Health. “As a leader in the fight against hunger, Fallon Health is pleased to support programs and initiatives that positively impact the health and well-being of those in the communities where we live and work.”
The additional $200,000 in funding has been distributed in the following ways:
- $80,000 to Open Sky to support the new temporary homeless shelter at Blessed Sacrament Church in Worcester. Breakfast and lunch will be covered for shelter guests through the end of March.
- $15,000 to the United Way of Central Mass. to bolster Fallon Health’s annual workplace giving campaign. In total, Fallon Health and its employees contributed more than $49,000 to support the communities where they live and work.
- $10,000 to the United Way of Tri-County to support increased demand to its food security program. The UWTC’s three food pantries and two cafés’, which also benefit from Fallon Health’s Community Impact Grants program, served 47,591 visitors through August 2022, compared to 29,451 in 2021.
- The remaining $95,000 will support 16 food pantries across Fallon Health’s service area with amounts ranging between $5,000 and $7,500. These are all pantries Fallon Health has supported over the years who also continue to experience greater need.
