Fallon Health Partners with Leading Providers to Help Bring High-Quality, Lower-Cost Care to MassHealth Members in Eastern and Central Massachusetts and the Berkshires

MassHealth Accountable Care Organizations Aim to Improve Access and Reduce Health Disparities

Worcester, Massachusetts, January 24, 2023 – Fallon Health announced today that it is partnering with three leading provider organizations to bring high-quality, lower-cost care to MassHealth members in eastern and central Massachusetts and the Berkshires through the MassHealth Accountable Care Organization (ACO) program.

Fallon Health is forming a new ACO partnership with Atrius Health, which serves eastern Massachusetts, and renewing relationships with Reliant Medical Group, which focuses on central Massachusetts, and the Health Collaborative of the Berkshires, which includes Berkshire Health Systems, Community Health Programs, and other providers, which serve the Berkshires. In all, the three ACOs will care for approximately 90,000 MassHealth members.

“We are fortunate to partner with these high-quality providers to advance the collaborative, coordinated, patient-centered care that is at the core of the ACO program’s effectiveness,” said Richard Burke, President & CEO of Fallon Health. “Our participation in the MassHealth ACO program also aligns with our vision of becoming the leading provider of government-sponsored health insurance programs for which demand continues to grow.”

MassHealth ACOs are groups of providers and health plans that come together to provide high-quality, coordinated and prevention-based care to MassHealth members, with an emphasis on increasing access and closing gaps in care. MassHealth is a state-administered Medicaid program, funded by the state and federal governments, that provides health care to eligible individuals. Fallon Health’s three ACOs are slated to begin on April 1, 2023.

Fallon Health is unique among health plans in focusing on providing care to members of government health insurance programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Reconnecting with its history, which includes being the first health plan in Massachusetts to receive a contract to cover Medicaid recipients, Fallon made a strategic decision last year to refocus on government markets. Today, nearly four out of five Fallon members are enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid.
